Let's see your home made desks
Still looking for a picture, but the Recording Jones operates on a very deep (previously wide) door "acquired" in a late-night dumpster dive at a university building which was being remodeled. It's on some office desk legs that were being tossed at work (required no diving), which are supported by 90 degree brackets purchased at the local hardware store. It's perfect - Long, deep, pretty sturdy. Left the hinges on just for hipness, or something...

i hacked an Ikea dining table to be the mixer desk for my Ghost. you can see pictures here: http://www.5dstudios.com/studio/?p=102
Here's a corner desk I built for my living room:
The speakers are decoupled, there is 6" of 705 and a cinderblock behind the wood panel beneath the speakers. Speakers are homemade 2-ways I built years ago with Dynaudio drivers.
Note the keyboard drawer also has a MIDI keyboard behind the computer keyboard and mouse.
This is a living room, not a studio, so I had to design it for multipurpose use, including music.
There is a mic cabinet to the lower left, the computer rack lower center, and shelves to the lower right. There is also an open storage area between the computer rack and the mic cabinet (for cases, etc). Then there are 2 "tabletop" surfaces, one for the mixer, etc., and one on top for misc. storage.
Here's a view of the underside:
I designed this in sketchup. It took 4 sheets of plywood to build. I can send people a sketchup file if you want to check it out.

Here you go:
All oak, all made by mua. I like that the speakers sit above the console, so I do not get as much console sound refractions (reflections). 24 rack spaces total, 8 per side, plus 4 on each side of the center section. Open back helps keep gear at a good temperature, and also serves to trap some sound waves too.
There's one more 24 rackspace unit behind the right side, which now holds the Mac Pro, and some extra gear, as well as all the hard drives. Makes it a little quieter in there.
Cheers

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Re: Let's see your home made desks
Well this isn't exactly a DIY desk, but it IS hella cheap.
Two things from Ikea:
A plain desk top - about $150
some legs - about $50
wall mount brackets - about $45
a shelf
put it together, and it's not bad.
