New Interfaces (FireStudio, Saffire 26, Alesis io26)

Post by Frankencow152 » Tue Dec 05, 2006 9:43 am

What do you all think of some of these? Anyone have them yet?

After reading so many reviews for other 8-xlr firewire interfaces...it seems like no one is really completely happy with any of them!

The FireStudio doesn't really seem much different from the FirePod besides having the whole monitor remote thing, which doesn't even seem all that great...do you think the pre's would be any better than the firepod's pres?

The Saffire 26 seems to be the best out of these 3 because I guess it's made by Focusrite?

I've never heard anything about the Alesis io26 but it seems to be pretty similar to all the other 8-xlr interfaces.

Strange no one responded to this post- or maybe it's answered elsewhere. I have the Firestudio. I'm so sick of visiting their forum for help. It does sound good- but I'm having trouble getting a good signal into Logic. I'm bypassing the built-in pres. I want to use my UA LA610 without any help from the interface pres- yet even with line input I'm able to control volume on the Firestudio- actually, to get a decent signal I must turn up the trimpot on the Firestudio input.

Their forum moderator says it does not add color/etc. to the sound. I'm still not sure. It has headphone volume issues too.

I'd like to know what interfaces people are using here.

thanks,
CB

Here is yet another. This one is from art and is based around 8 tube pres. At $520 its probably more like the tube mp, than the mpa would be my guess.

I haven't had a chance to review the firestudio, yet. I just ordered some for my store, should be getting them in a few days. The pres are probably the same. The nice thing about the firestudio is the 16 channels of ADAT I/O. Nothing like a 32 channel interface. For a hundred bucks more, I hope my customers gobble it up.

I can't tell you about the FireStudio, but I have two Firepods and the drivers are rock solid on my PC. They work and they work great. The preamps are very clean and uncolored.

I am betting that the preamps in the FireStudio might be a bit better, since they claim on the website that they are totally discrete (ie, no ICs). The clock is supposed to be better in the FireStudio as well and it has ADAT lightpipe input, which is a bonus. And zero latency monitoring. I'm seriously considering selling my two Firepods and buying a FireStudio and Digimax FS.

I tried this one, and DA blows. Like bad. Like worse than MBox.

Sucks, too, because the drivers were uber solid on the macbook...

I'm using the Firepod right now with good results, just not too thrilled with the reliability of one of the pots (mixer) as it makes some crackly noise going between input/playback, I think the encoder's gonna die on me and this is after 1 year of daily use. I'm actually thinking about moving up to the Mackie 1200F if/when it ever comes out.
