I'm Beta testing Wavosaur. (http://www.wavosaur.com)

Very nifty indeed. Takes VST inserts, has spectroscope functionality, and it sounds great. Tiny little memory footprint and low CPU overhead. You can carry it and a basic compressor plug-in on a floppy; how cool is that?

Audacity is good but I really dig this Wavoaur. Keep an eye out for these guys.

See if the're still taking testers.

Do you mean you are using old-skool magnetic floppy disks? That would be almost too hip.

Adobe Soundbooth looks good, too!

I use Audacity, usually.

That is currently in open beta testing. The beta version will stop working on April 27th, and I'm guessing the final version won't be free.

You can use Reaper without paying until your conscience gets to you, and even then it's just 40 bucks. It's layout is geared to multitrack work, but it should cover 93% of the same ground as a straight-up wave editor.

That Adobe Soundbooth (Mac App version) is a whopping 320 MB. We should shun it on general principle alone. I hate how Acrobat Reader takes 45 seconds to load, and my hatred of Adobe from Reader spills over to whatever else they concoct for the world.

Suit yourself, dude. I prefer the GIMP, clunky though it may be.

something went desperately wrong with Adobe and its products at the end of the 90s.

and it ain't gettin' any better.

I think Adobe Photoshop kicks ass... Illustrator's pretty freakin' great, too... I'm not sayin' that there aren't viable alternatives, but those two apps, imho, buy Adobe a get-out-of-jail-free card for the forseeable future, as far as I'm concerned...

And how about Premiere? It's as big an app in digital video as Photoshop is in graphic design...

Reader ain't my favorite app by any means, but judging Adobe's entire output by a clunky Reader ain't exactly fair...

And I dig Audition, too... I'm confused... When and how did Adobe start sucking, and how did I miss it?!?
