removing the paint from a cheap condenser?

Post by runrunrun » Thu Dec 21, 2006 10:25 am

i am wondering if anyone has ever removed the paint from a cheap LDC condenser, specifically the MXL V67G? I'd like to strip off all the green paint and the gold from the grille.

I might paint it with something else, depending on how it looks once its stripped?

Any recommendations for products to strip the paint off the body or the grille? What kinds of paint would work for the body?

You'll probably need to put on some primer before you re-paint.

I stripped my MXLs in two steps. First I applied a little chemical stripping gel to the finish, this removed much of the color. Second, I removed the remaining color and spruced everything up on an electric bench grinder fitted with a wire brush wheel. Make sure to wear safety glasses and gloves. The bodies look so much better "in the white" (raw metal). My MXL 2001s are naturally bronze, and they are really classy looking now!

did you clearcoat the mics after grinding?
bronze looks cool until it oxidizes.
