Thanks for the well thought out response 8th_Note.

I sent him an email last night. Here's an abbreviated version.

I basically told him that I would have liked to have this completed by now, however the lack of content and materials has pushed the deadline back several times. I also informed him that I would preffer to communicate through email so there can be no confusion (for either party) as to where to go from here.

After having to deal with something like this on this level I'd rather not complete this project, however, it's much more feasible for me. So if I can I will.

I'm trying to figure out how to not let this person bully me around. It's going to be hard considering the position I'm in with my wife, however, I'm going to try and be as professional and tactful as possible with him. Maybe he'll get the idea that I mean business and I'm not afraid since I want everything in writing from now on.

Let's see where this goes from here I suppose.

I can definitely say I won't be doing any more freelance (steady employers/in-house only) graphics or video projects for anyone unless I'm doing it for free for a friend. That way the situation is more relaxed and there's no money at stake. I only do graphics and video to compliment/supplement my audio career anyways. This is too much of a headache. Dealign with Audio clients is enough for me at the moment, thank you.

Nah, no refund!
He needs to deliver the content or just call it a loss. I agree w/ the letter idea. That would clarify your stance. Just make sure that it is not open ended. Also, he needs to deliver sooner rather than later (if he actually wants it done). Specify a delivery deadline in the letter.

Seriously, I've experienced situations that have just dragged on & on... The artist that does sites for our clients also has a guy that never delivered. Just has a splash page and links since last March.
I guess he didn't care anymore?
peace!

As for the original posters question, I think that you should try to keep a clear and detailed record of communications with your client going forward, and keep to the obligation as best as possible providing the client gives you the content you need. I would try to establish a reasonable timeline with the client that works for both of you.

As for the posters wife...

I removed my comments and post, repecting Kitana's request. Apologies.
