Staggered Walls

Post by ramchandra » Thu Jan 11, 2007 2:08 pm

I have posted this on Gearslutz just trying to get as many opinions as possible.
We are framing off a garage door using the staggered stud method. People having been telling me to loosely place the insulation betwwen the studs so it doesn't cause transmittance. But we have to deal with Utah's chilly weather. is there a way around this? Or is it one or the other? :?

If you're building a freestanding room inside the garage the staggered studs aren't necessary - save some money. The only time you use staggered stud walls is when you'll have drywall on both sides and that single structure is directly shared with another space to be isolated.

As for the insulation, from the standpoint of thermal insulation, loosely stuffed insulation will work better. The airspace inside the fibers is a lot of what provides the insulation but being broken up into millions of tiny pockets by the fibers.
