On the 635a tip, there's the EV PL-5 which is the same mic with a different finish color and name tag.

Beyer M-101 is pretty neat - it's the omni version of the 201. A bit more bandwidth than the 635a.

They're definitely condensers.
Rodgre wrote:I would consider the EV 635A as a great omni dynamic. It's geared toward voice, so it doesn't have real low bottom or real sizzly highs, but it has a really forward sounding midrange which makes this one a favorite for micing guitar amps.
Agreed.

I second or third the avensons I have the earlier stapes version and use them as overheads all the time. Use em for acoustic guitar use em for percussion.

Hard not to recommend the 635 for a first dynamic omni. Much fun and a lot different than many of the other low $$$ offerings.

RE50 is the same capsule as the 635a. It has a shockmount built-in-- it's like a mic inside a mic.

Yeah, I took one partially apart once when I was volunteering at the public access station and It actually kinda looked like an entire 635 stuffed inside of a larger empty mic body.

yeah 635a...nice jammed right in an acoustic sound hole, nice forward sound.
Also the Behringer B5 comes with a omni cap that works well with things that aren't to loud like 12 strings, another cheap option is the ATM10a. I bought one on ebay 'cause it came with a great $50 clip and XLR cable for 30 bucks, I though I sell the mic but it's kinda cool, I like the AT stuff.
