Post your links to studios (big or small) that have the mojo happening. Here's a few to get us started.

reppin' the BK:
http://www.excellorecording.com - space to breathe, a funky Calrec board, and a nice mic closet indeed
http://www.martinbisi.com/studio.html - old school without a doubt - Martin is just ridiculously good at what he does
http://www.studiogbrooklyn.com - say hey to Joel and get some good tracks while at it.

ridiculously gorgeous no expense spared place in upstate NY:
http://www.allairestudios.com/

& elsewhere:
http://www.compasspointstudios.com/ - might as well get a tan on breaks between takes

http://www.mapleshaderecords.com - Pierre Sprey may well be a snake oil salesman - but he actually believes every line of it - and theres's no getting around that he's a genius!!

http://www.ronthemusicmaker.org/music/studio.htm - can't call this "mojo" really - but L Ron Hubbard - aka Mr. Scientologist himself - did have a pretty snazzy mic collection! maybe file this under "freaky deaky" instead of "mojo"

http://www.searsound.com - I just love listening to Walter tell me how digital is utter garbage while he smokes like a chimney. The C room is amazing sounding though.

http://www.trickdogrecording.com - Paul Evans Mitchell's comfy place out in the sticks. the man knows his stuff!

Best regards,
Steve Berson

I'm praying I get to work at http://www.bearcreekstudio.com/ in the near future. Hands down the sweetest, most comfortable studio I've ever been in.

Terrific, organic live room, scenic area and a bunch of Russian mics. Can't ask for anything more.

Toe Rag Studios is cool, and that's the one that immediately came to my mind.

The actor Vincent Gallo, of all people, has a pretty interesting recording studio...the guy is a vintage gear freak. It's got a bit of that mad scientist's lair vibe going on.

He should be on Tapeop. I read an interview where he talked about the studio and how he devoted the majority of two and a half years of his life to constructing it, but was stymied by missing twenty feet of a specific vintage Mogami cable. He spent a month finding a guy with some and installed it before proceeding with his record. It sounds like he's a pretty serious microphone addict too..

Verdant studio is one of my personal favorites. Anyone in New England should know about this place and all it has to offer! Seriously.. as a freelancer, this place kind of made me rethink the way I approach engineering! The vibe in this place is pretty unreal.

Haha yeah VG is really OCD..He is a really nice guy though..not at all like in his movies..I think he has a true talent for capturing great sounds and images..he is real into modern electronic type music as well as old school stuff..I would love to see a TO interview for him happen..
