I know some people that have been to all kinds of allergy doctors, then finally started flushing their sinus with saline daily and swear they are cured. There was a special kind of saline solution - sorry don't know what it was - they were basically shooting up their nose until you can taste it real good, then rinse, lather, repeat.... I don't know what kind of side-effects that has but maybe no worse than a head full of snot.

i had horrible sinus trouble and just last year i finally started flushing my nasal cavity/sinuses with this http://www.allergybegone.com/sinus-rinse-kit.html

it really does help and it's fucking amazing what will cleanse from your sinuses at the tail end of a sinus infection or cold. you also have super smell powers immediately after rinsing.

i believe some buddhists do this as it helps them breathe during meditation.

as others have said, i think it's very important to get tested for allergens as well. one little allergen discovery and almost all of your symptoms could disappear. my ENT specialist said that the main problem with my sinus trouble was that allergens were making eustachian tube swollen and it was causing the pressure of my inner ear to fluctuate. i would have "episodes" where the room would completely shift through my eyes. horrible balance trouble. getting the allergy stuff taken care of was a HUGE help. the room doesn't spin out of nowhere anymore.

Don't mean to pee in the pool, but ear candling (while I'm sure it's relaxing) has no actual positive effect.
There is most likely a psychosematic response, which makes you think you're hearing better afterward. The first webpage to come up on google when you search for "ear candling" is quackwatch.org

I had a horrible sinus infection (viral and bacterial double whammy) in December and January that lasted like six weeks and for most of that time my hearing was severely compromised. The sinus fluid had nowhere else to go so it drained into my ears and just stayed there until the swelling went down. Fortunately that all went away after some antibiotics and a hospital stay and now my hearing is back to normal.

I use hydrogen peroxide in my ears on a pretty regular basis too, but only to prevent wax buildup- it won't do anything about fluid.

wow, gross post...

for those of you who have an ENT specialist, how many have been checked for Sinus Polyps?

i just diagnosed today, after having chronic sinus infections since i was 14 (21 now)...according to some internet sources, saline solution can help as far as comfort goes, but steroidal anti-inflamatory nose spray, combined with anti-fungal and/or anti-biotic medication, and possibly surgery is the only way to ensure normal sinus function.

on a lighter note, having someone stick a camera up your nose is not fun. at all.

I was about to say, based on personal experience, that having someone stick a camera down your throat is no fun either; but I was pretty drugged up when they did that, so I guess it was fun!
