They used to make standalone spring reverbs for home stereos, too. I'm sure that it sounded cool as hell, and made lots of noise when you went over bumps!

yeah, i use some of the home ones for reverb. they can be nice.
especially this one: the Fisher Space Expander. it's lo-fi as hell, but ads an incredible vibe. i want to do a whole record where everything goes through it.

actually, i'm doing a 4 song thing with Katy Davidson of Dear Nora and her friend Marianna. that might be my opportunity!

I had never heard of the Spring Reverb for cars, but I knew a fella who's dad had a turntable in his car in the early 60's. It's one of those branches in the evolutionary tree that don't grow very long...

Yeah, the invention of the speed bump killed that technology.

Is it a coincidence that music and cars began sucking in the 70s?

the fisher k10 space expander was used famously and to great effect (literally) by king tubby.. although its rumoured that his unit was heavily modified. theyre still cheap to get a hold of and use a standard accutronics reverb tank.. there's lots more info on the dub forums.

my dad told me lots of hot rodders put reverb on their car stereos in the 60s and 70s. I had never seen one though until this thread. :D

reverb units were an option for Pontiac and other GM cars from the early-mid 60's.... i had a buddy back in high school with a 1968 GTO convertible that had a factory radio w/ reverb.
