For now, I've been calling it "the Oh-En-Oh-Eff-Eff switch."
Its pronounced "don't touch that!"

That's a forward slash, dude. I actually had to correct the singer at a concert the other night when he said to go to their website at [something.com] "backslash" [whatever]

backslashes are used for DOS (rhymes with boss), but don't work for TCP/IP (pronounced Tee See Pee I Pee)

Sorry dude. Everyone knows that one's pronounced "Tihkpip".

Now that everyone is on a D'AWW, and acronyms are out of control, we have a new problem. People are making up there own acronyms and not getting them passed by the ASS (Acronym Specialists Society)(pronounced "ass"). ADC, I thought, was Audio to Digital Conversion. Somebody started people saying ADC was Automatic Delay Compensation. Then someone said the new ADC should actually be PDC for Plugin Delay Compensation, which seems like it would pass an ASS inspection to me.

The most important rule in the ASS guidelines is that you can't hi-jack an existing acronym in the same field of interest.

Whatever your complaint about acronyms, just be glad you don't work with the guy that came up with this one (straight out of wikipedia, so it must be true):

"The world's longest initialism, according to the Guinness Book of World Records is NIIOMTPLABOPARMBETZHELBETRABSBOMONIMONKONOTDTEKHSTROMONT. The 56-letter initialism (in Cyrillic) is from the Concise Dictionary of Soviet Terminology and means "The laboratory for shuttering, reinforcement, concrete and ferroconcrete operations for composite-monolithic and monolithic constructions of the Department of the Technology of Building-assembly operations of the Scientific Research Institute of the Organization for building mechanization and technical aid of the Academy of Building and Architecture of the USSR.""

I'm so tired of acronyms. I work at GE and nearly 90% of all sentences are a string of acronyms. They even have a booklet of their acronyms! It's all alphabet soup to me.

AES/EBU- AeSeBu. Clearly a Japanese word, meaning "Pay extra, it's Professional".

Let's not forget the all-time favorite TOMB (oop, there's another one) acronyms:

UTFSF

and

RTFM
