The worst acronym

Post by RYCLEA » Wed Mar 21, 2007 3:46 pm

How do we all like to pronounce DAW? "Daah" sounds stupid and "dee ay doubleyou" is hardly any better than "digital audio workstation." It seems to me that the Marketing people at Korg and Roland, etc. should have given this more thought.

I suggest we recording wonks make up a new pronounciation that can't be figured out from the spelling (you know, like "colonel" or "La Jolla". That way we can separate the cool people from the rabble.
I suggest WAD. Any suggestions?

That's a great question. I have to say that I write DAW all the time, but I never refer to anything like that with speech. I'll always say "computer-based" or just "desktop."

It's reminds me of my wondering how other people pronouced "FET", whereas I say "EFF EEE TEE" unless I'm referring to a Neumann FET (as in Boba) 47.

I pronounce it as spelled. Like a combination between "D'oh!" and "Awww that's cute."

Somebody needs to build a Boba FET 47. Seriously.

I'll take two.

Three syllables vs. five. My mouth likes saying "esspeediff".

I go with two syllables "SPiD-IF". I refuse to recognize the backslash.

I really want to turn AES/EUB into an acronym but I fear I will be punched.

I'm trying to figure out how to pronounce the acronym for this one switch on my preamp.

For now, I've been calling it "the Oh-En-Oh-Eff-Eff switch."
