i vote for Dee Ahey double u over Daw. I cant stand the way that sounds when it rolls out of someones mouth. Daw Daw DUH dude. Daw. It sounds even worse when rednecks say it. You gotta daw mang? One time I worked at a music store and this dude wanted "obstacle cable" for his Ahy Dee Ay Tee.

When I worked in online MI and Pro Audio retail I fielded lots of "Em eye Dee eye" calls, or "I gotta get me a MIDI" calls, which were always entertaining, until you're on the phone for 30mins explaining the history of MIDI and stuff to someone who never got past the 6th grade and then you hear "I gotta go, but you've been real good help. When i need to buy some gitttTar strings I'll call you for some more help." Seriously.

My boss supposedly got a call once from a redneck dude who plugged his electric guitar into the wall. Not sure if that one was true or not, but it had me in hysterics laughing.

I was present in a mastering session recently and when one of the engineers asked me if I used Pro Tools I told him that I used DP. The other M.E. said "Dude, you use double-penetration!?!?!?!". So now it's "I make music on my Macs with Digital Performer."

Yeah... I never say DAW either. I usually say "On the G5" or "On the Powerbook" or "On the computer" as well.

DAW is way to GeekSpeak and 9 times out of 10 you need to explain what the hell you are referring to anyway.

I agree, just say computer.

i don't know why this didn't pop into my head when this thread was started. . .but as soon as i saw this topic today I thought:

DVDA (as in DVD Audio)

Just watch the movie "Orgazmo." I think that's the only explanation apropriate for this messageboard.

Once as a temp-worker I got assigned to work for the local RBOC (Regional Bell Operating Company). Seems the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) was fining them because their service line hold-times were too long.

What'd they do? Throw a bunch of temps on the lines to take messages for the techs.

We were strongly encouraged to use the service department acronyms. The funniest one was for "Static On Line". Yeah, good times, good times.

in your little story, DP was jokingly misconstrued as something sexual. i was parodying that exchange by pointing out that "mastering session" could also, albeit loosely, be interpreted as some sort of prearranged act of mutual self-gratification.
