Seriously...a 12-pack of beer to whoever can get me an exclusive guided tour without buying session time.

Hm, good luck. I got them to give me a rate card but that's about it.

This is the closest that I got three weeks ago. I would have loved to get past the razorwire, dogs, and snipers.

:D

Get a job with their local beer delivery company and you can at least see the pub.

I have had no problem visiting any studio I've wanted to in the past or present. Make the trip to England and dial up the studio manager. They are not about to turn away a potential client.

It's truly a different thing with Abbey Road. They get hundreds of phone calls a month from Beatles fans wanting to see the place. It's still a fully-functional four-room facility and they won't just let anybody in.

I suppose if you set yourself up as a potential client, it might work, or it might not. But they don't generally give tours to people just wanting to see it.

You could also book a mastering session there. It's really much less expensive than you might think.

Depends on the exchange rate. I did an EP there right before the war started that cost hundreds. Two main factors have changed: 1)The war made the process more expensive for those of us un the US and 2) Chris Blair passed away. I have no idea if any of the guys there now are as fast a Chris was, but I'm sure it's still a fantastic deal. Even at the time, the hourly rate wasn't really any more than most competent mastering engineers over here.

1) I hadn't heard about Chris Blair. that sucks.

B) From the rate card I got, it ain't too expensive compared to some U.S. studios.

I did a session there a couple of years ago, playing glockenspiel. The band i was playing for had befriended an engineer who i'd imagine was pretty new to the place so they got it super-cheap. It wasn't really my sort of music but i wanted to go there so i said yes. I guess that's one way in.

I have no idea how to get in there, other than bro'ing down with a security dude or something, but DAMN how I want to now that I'm reading Recording the Beatles!

Ooo, actually, that just gave me an idea though. Go hang, wait for some guys to leave on foot, see if they go to a local pub and buy em a beer and chat... might work!?!?!

I was lucky enough to get in a few years ago when they had a movie festival to mark the 25th anniversary of sounds tracks being recorded there. They let us hang around in Studio 2 for a couple of hours, I ate in the cafeteria and then saw the movie in studio 1. It has made reading "RTB" so much more fun. Soaking in the vibe in Studio 2 is something I will never forget.Image
It may be a garage, but it doesn't sound like one.

I wish I could have made it over to that film festival. It sounded way cool. I see they changed the sign over the front door again.

Hey, does anybody know about the graffiti? They were going to try to put a stop to it a while back. Did they succeed?
