RMG 1/2" 911 prblems?

Post by jmpizzoferrato » Thu Apr 26, 2007 8:40 am

is anyone having any problems with the new batches of RMG? I've been getting a lot of shedding and some level drops. I'ven ever had these problems with Ampex or Quantegy.

yep, i had this problem with some 911 that i ordered back in december. It took some work, and an incorrect shipment, but i finally got them to send me some new stuff which i haven't been able to try yet.

I also had shedding and level drops, mostly high freq.

sucks.

I had some 2" 911 shed on me about 6 weeks ago. Got through calibrating about 3 channels and it was all over. Less than ten minutes on the machine and it was trashed.

Although RMG was very cool and replaced it, I was told it failed due to the wear patterns on my machine comprimising the edges of the tape. This would really only involve the lifter as everything else is rollers.

I have not tried the new reel (SM900) they sent yet.

I am so hoping it was really a bad batch, as I really want to run RMG product and not have to hunt for used Quantegy.

They are having slitting problems at the plant. This affects the width of the tape. I had the same issue with Batch #0911B006040-34120

Call RMGI. Give them your batch number and they'll send replacements promptly. The replacement reels were fine, but I will keep my eyes peeled for this problem in the future.
