Hi,
I was wondering what a good stradegy for mixing a higher bass around (200hz, sometimes 100 as well) with a kick (usually around 100hz)
Both are electronic, and because of some conceptual constraints can't really be changed.
Is there anyway to keep it funky and dancey with out using a sub bass?

I usually take lows out of the kick a lot. Kinda makes the kick sound like a cardboard box, but that way it doesn't fight with the bass so much. That way you can make the bass sound nice and round and low, but the kick will still have a driving quality.

Since you're having difficulty in the frequency domain, try messing with the time domain using various compression/expansion techniques.
Two things to try out, if you have the tools to do so.
Try sidechaining the bass compressor so its keyed off the kick and mess around with the attack and release so that the bass isn't stepping on the kick but also isn't sounding too slow.
Using a multiband, try expanding some of the sub-100 in the kick with a medium attack and release setting (10-20 ms?) and compressing the higher frequencies (~30 ms attack, 200 ms release?) so they punch a little more.
This is all dependent on the tempo of the song etc., so don't hold me to those exact numbers.
Can't guarantee that this will work, but its an interesting dimension to be able to manipulate in getting things to fit in the right place.
Good luck!
