8)

The first link doesn't.

To use my "formula", the link has to have the "*.jpg" or similar extension - flickr won't work.

Doya like the DOD 866? Very similar to the dbx166A, except it adds compressor attack and release and input gain, and lacks a gate release and limiter level and soft knee. Still, it sounds very close ... I keep mine set for recording stereo acoustic guitar.

Oh, the first link is working for me (try again?).

Ah, should have known about Flickr; oh well, that's how I post me pix now.

I'm using the DOD comp in my live sound rack (mostly DJing, but it's also there for real live sound reinforcement gigs), as a "stereo"/two-channel comp (running two output channels on everything, but of course it's in mono-- you know the deal). So, yeah, it sounds fine (pretty transparent, as inexpensive comps go), and it gooses the sound just enough for what I need. See a picture at this link (the Boss SE is super-noise-y and I'm only using it for a particular Phaser/Flanger effect; the guitar pedals on top are for some more funky DJ effects, but they are most likely being replaced by my incoming DOD spring reverb!): https://www.flickr.com/photos/98397575@ ... otostream/

The new DBX in the pix I haven't even tried yet...

Yeah, I like the DOD for a cheap compressor - it was actually my first, bought back in the early 90's. I think I read somewhere it's got dbx guts ...

First link is OK, now.

Korg Volca Bass.

Haven't even opened it yet... Can't wait! Also, waiting on a DOD spring reverb (thanks to rhythm ranch).

Just picked up a 3 octave Jaymar toy piano at a flea market. It's probably the nicest, most in tune one I've ever seen. Bought it for my son but it might just find it's way to the studio.

Those are cool. I have one for me and one for my daughter. A strategically placed pickup (humbucker works best) can get all the notes. Or a loosely wound (microphonic) single coil. Run it through some effects and have fun.

Ha! Get one. I've spent some time with it today; it was a good grab. I also have the Volca Keys, but if I was only going to have one, I'd probably go with the Bass (it's a bit of a misnomer, as it's got some hip features that the Keys doesn't). I'm not that impressed with the Beats drum-machine...

Picked up another Tascam 388?either for parts or to restore and make it my main?haven't found out yet, kinda dusty?

So far actually it works better than my main, except for a few burnt meters. Still dirty as hell. Went through a lot of cleaning swaps just on the tape path to get it sparkly.

If you already play sitar, the left hand technique is the same. The bow is held underhand, unlike a cello bow (though there's an alternative cello bow technique (French?) that's similar). If you don't play sitar, then I suggest you take some lessons. It's pretty different from guitar, for example. On the left hand you're only going to use the first two fingers, and the second one is only for the highest note you play before descending. You should be able to bend accurately to each note in the scale up to about a perfect fifth higher starting from each fret that's a note in the scale. And of course, if you're playing traditionally, you'll need to learn the ascending and descending versions of the ragas you want to play, and listen to as many renditions of them as you can find. Beautiful instrument. Good luck.
