20". Last one I used was a 26" which was really cool, but by no means would it ever fit in my apartment. Also, it belongs to my ex-girlfriend, so I'd have to steal it anyways. 22" seems like the all-around sure-bet kick size to cover about anything. And if it's turquoise, well that's just that much better.

I'd probably be a drummer if I never found the guitar, but would likely remain in the Bun E. Carlos school -- there is nothing like working out a small 2 or 3 piece kit, one ride and a high-hat.

Yeah I suppose RVA is making a mark, now of course that I'm too old to go to many shows or keep up with things. There is still only a small handful of decent places to play here.

Just got back from the Musician's Flea Market in Buffalo. Ooo. Got rid of a bunch of junk... um, I mean stuff... um I mean vintage gear...

Um and I bought this stuff:

ART dual levelar (price was right--still holding out for some dbx tho')
Traynor TS-15 (all solid state! Twin 8" speakers! gritty! spitty! nasty!)
Pair of Sony F-32 hi-z mics

and at the last second

Line 6 Tap Tremolo stomp box.

That trem sounds fan*fff*ing*tastic, not sure the footswitch will be usable tho.

Peavey Bass 400 Series bass amp head. It's the one with the distortion knobs and 6 channel eq (with knobs, not sliders). I used one in the early 80s and have been trying to get that sound ever since. Then it dawned on me "just buy the head that makes the sound you want." Dirt cheap, very underrated due to its Buck Rogers in the Heavy Metal 70s look.

yesterday i bought myself a gibson les paul special.

i'm lovin' it.

i also bought myself an at3035 today. i'm specifically going to use it's high spl to record that les paul with that bassman 2x15.

I got a 33 channel Neve 5316. All discrete. 24 channels of 31114, 9 channels of 31115. 8 bus's's, uptown moving fader automation... (really psyched about that).
Completely refurbed by fred hill. Back to basically "new" condition. Should be installed soon at Studio G Brooklyn. After working on a 5316 with 31114's in it a bunch at Tiny Telephone, I made it a priority to get into one myself....

It took a minute, but now it is on its way.
As i sit in switzerland thinking about that neve.. i kind of cant believe I really own a neve console. Crazy.

Not to flog a dead horse here, but that Traynor is just awesome!!!

There's not much to it (twin 8" speakers and a solid state amp) but it's got throttle response like a Carter AFB on a small-block V-8. Gets you where you want to go in a big hurry.

You know that rich, fat, full, creamy, overdriven sound you get out of a tube amp? This thing says "f-you" to that sound.

It's gritty, spitty and brash and I love it. Makes me want to play some Stooges. Hook up that tremolo pedal and I'm a happy, happy guy.

now to hit it to tape...

Man, I was all stoked about to post about my pair of OSA mp1c's, but, um, yeah...
I got two API clone channels. Oh, and an effectron, which rocks the hizouse.

I just got a Pearlman TM1. For those of you not in the know it's a handmade tube mic. This one has a vintage Telefunken EEF14.

I think the mix used to belong to Ozzy Osbourne!
