Just ordered this little thing off eBay:

Ah, the Ashbory. Look around and there's much cheaper ways to re-string if it comes to that, I read somewhere. Surgical tubing, mebbe?

Mapex Cherry Bomb snare. I got it on the same date as I got my Gretsch set 30 years prior.

Pearl Crystal Beat. "Baby Bonham" sizes (13/16/24). just got it setup so I'm still working on dialing in the tuning and maybe a little muffling on the kick. So far sounds very similar to Vistalite's I've had or played in the past. brand new drums, but got a good deal because the kick was cracked in 2 places. I repaired it and although you can definitely see the cracks (from the right angle), it's strong and sounds fine - got it just to play/record in the studio anyway. these things are too damn heavy to take to a gig.

Sweet. I love the acrylic hoops on the BD. How did you fix the cracks?

Weld-On (now IPS/Sci-Grip) #16 acrylic glue (although from what I understand it "fuses" more than "glues" the parts together). My first time attempting it and I did a sloppy job, but after buffing it out it looks pretty decent and the bearing edges are good so it still sounds good.

How's that Cherry Bomb? What's it doing (or you hope that it will do) that got you interested in that one?

Which AT mic is that on the snare? There are a bunch of ATM25s at a studio I work out of and I love them all over the kit. Never tried them on snare though.

That's cool to know there's a good fix for those drums.

The Cherry Bomb has a really nice thing going in the low end, even when tuned medium or tight. I'd call the tone rich. I got interested in cherry snares when Chris Whitten mentioned that he used his cherry Cravioto more than any of his other wood drums. Those ain't cheap and neither the A&F and a few other boutique makers. I happened on the Mapex a while back and there are some good recordings. Sweetwater has a finance deal, so I jumped on it. PM and I can send you a test recording.

That's an ATM23he. I've used it on snare since they first came out. I was working at an AT dealer at the time and almost every time I use something else, I then go back to it, either during the session or on the next one.

First "top tier" guitar I have ever ordered.

Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Korg SQ1 sequencer. I'm looking forward to attempting to use it as a Midi to CV converter to add keyboard control to an old, modded Korg Monotron that I just pulled out of the drawer after 10 years.
As an aside, I'd forgotten how fun the monotron is. It's potentially great sounding but unplayable as an instrument in stock form. I've been running my RMI Electrapiano into a fuzz and then through the monotron filter which is pretty fun.

I have the same color Ashbory.
I put these on about a year ago, supposedly longer lasting than the stock silicone strings (which tend to spontaneously explode in the case).
Gigged it a few times, I bought a talc bag (bowling alley pro shop item) to help with the string tackiness on the fretting hand.

I have one of those and periodically re-discover it a cuppla time a year. It's wicked fun for the odd avant noise solo, sometimes even in key.

It's kind of useless as a standalone instrument but once you hack the test points and add some extra I/O jacks the possibilities are pretty great.

Such hacks are beyond my ability, but it's still fun to goof with, and a nice special effect.

I'm happy to report that I recently acquired a mint, new-in-package set of LaBella Black Tape Nylon Bass Strings.

I have a set of those onna fretless and I swear my fingertips feel burned after playing it for a half hour.

But if I can nail the part in 15 minutes, they are great.
