Hello! I haven't posted here in a very long time.

I'm on a quest to simplify/optimize/minimize my home space to reduce obstacles (perhaps excuses) in getting self-recording started. Toward this end, I just picked up a couple of short round-base Atlas stands which are really nice - but what I'm really excited about are the On-stage 'Posi-lok' booms that I bought for them. I find standard friction booms annoying to set up and cumbersome but these are great. I picked up a few of the 7" mini booms and one 9-16" telescoping boom that I mounted to my ceiling. Relatively inexpensive too. One of the more satisfying gear purchases I've made in a while.

ooh, I had not seen the telescoping version of that before. Will have to try one (I have the short one and it's good).

I have a few of both of those On Stage mini booms, and I'm going to order a few today for next week. They are super useful!!!!

Ah, I guess those booms weren’t as unknown as I thought. But yeah, highly recommended!

Indeed. I might do something like that, but I'll need a right angle piece as well.

I have a pair of AT-4033a's permanently mounted opposite where my drums are. The mics are cardioid and I actually have them pointed toward the corner (which is 10ft high and then you can see it's a vaulted ceiling) so it catches reflections there - kind of makes the room sound even bigger and then once I hit it with a compressor...

those are just 6" gooseneck extensions on a tabletop flange (but mounted to the side of the wall)

Man, I really need to do the same thing here. The last thing I tracked here pre-covid had live acoustic guitars and vocals in the room with the drums. Both were at the opposite end of the room from the drums with mics pointed away from the kit. The kit bleed sounded great.

as a plus, I re-claimed my 2 Ultimate Support MC-125 heavy duty mic stands (to use elsewhere) and the floor space they were using. :-)

The first time I ever saw mounted stands like that was at the Nashville RCA Studio B museum.
Studio B was the original RCA room pre-dating the larger A room.
They installed them years and years ago.
They almost never changed the arrangement of the room (where people were set up)
They would routinely do 3 completely different sessions with different personnel each day.
The had stands mounted on the ceiling and walls that would swivel out of the way with no cables on the floor so
people could load in and out quickly without damaging the cables. Kind of amazing.

A booking for a Covid shot. It may allow me to work with real people in the same room again. Maybe this year(!).

Glad to hear that! Ontario is in the midst of a slow rolling disaster and our government is doing just about everything they can to drop the ball and screw things up. It's going to get much worse here before it gets better.
