Just found out yesterday that my buddy is going to give me his Tascam 38 for free, as he is Dad-busy these days and not recording. I told him that he can have it back if he ever wants, so I will be long-term borrowing. It's in great condition and comes with 3 reels of unused tape.
This is right up there with the best scores ever.

Purchased the B16 compressor kit from Seventh Circle Audio.
We just set up a "hack lab" at my office, and after assembling this the plan is to add a strip of LEDs to the front panel for gain reduction metering. I feel metering is sorely missing from this design. If it works, I'll be posting up all the details on the mod.

Man, I am so stoked to get one and use it with my black Rat Shack EQ!dfuruta wrote:You *really* want the silver colored 33-1069...I heard it was the actual mic used on Thriller.vvv wrote:Saw this ad for a AT350D:
But wait? What's the other mic? Yep, Rat Shack 33-1070 (kinda a Shure-made 57 in omni) included for US$20 shipped!
Seriously, the Rat Shack omni is pretty cool, and for less than US$20?

?He wanted to leave an opportunity for the unexpected to happen,? he explains. ?For instance, I was allowed the freedom to make microphone choices, and nobody ever said a word. I just did it. For example, I used a Shure SM7 on most of Michael?s lead vocals ? ?Billie Jean?, ?The Way You Make Me Feel? ? Howling at the neighbors. Hoping they have more mic cables.

Sounds cool. The song reminds me a little of Nick Cave.vvv wrote:(Used it on lead vox last nite, here, altho' I bought it for amps.)[/size]

I've been completely upgrading my pedalboard, so I have picked up a few new pedals, all by Catalinbread. Dirty Little Secret III (replacing a ZVex Box of Rock), Octapussy (sick, dynamic octave-fuzz), and the Echorec (wonderful one-of-a-kind delay).
I've also rebuilt my Telecaster with a Duncan Vintage Stack humbucker set (noiseless Tele now) and an Orange Drop capacitor (way more musical and usable tone knob!), and rebuilt one of my old Alamo lap steels with a Duncan rails, new pots, new wiring, and an Orange Drop capacitor (it didn't have the original pickup, so I've been experimenting). It feels like I just received two new instruments!

I really like how musical the tone knob becomes. Way more usable now. I'm doing this to all of my guitars. It also really helps with fuzz pedals. The tone knob can dial in a sound now instead of being completely useless. My opinion.
