Post by drumsound » Sun May 27, 2007 8:44 pm

Those of you who are not aware of Mark Rubel, Hes quite a guy and I am proud to call my friend, His Pogo Studio in Champaign IL has been open over 25 years and he has worked with Alison Krauss, Adrian Belew, Hum and countless others. He was featured in Tape Op and interviewed Terry Manning and Les Paul for it. He posts here as marcopogo.

He was recently featured on Prairie Fire a public television show produced in Champaign.

It can be seen Here.

That was one clean studio, and a great clip. Mark should make more of those, ya know a little series. I would buy it.

Mark is a good friend & just a real great person. I hear he has remodeled the control room so it might be interesting to see what it looks like in the near future.

Hey It's cool to be back on here, had some puter problems. Tony, let me know when you are coming over & we could go see Mark & have a couple of Barley Pops. My studio as it was is full of household goods as we are trying to sell our house. Did record some drum tracks right before moving half the stuff in our house out there that came out pretty cool.

A shout-out to Lippold Haken! I fell asleep in his class, *cough* I mean: studied DSP with him in college. Chad Dunn is a disgustingly good percussionist, and Tom Paynter - rocking the flute there in the stage scene - deserves to be playing for bigger audiences. Always nice to see good people getting good publicity.

I can't believe 'downward is heavenward' was 10 years ago.

I never really knew who Mark was until now. I mean, I know I love the way that record sounds, but it's nice to put a face to the sound.

This is a nice video!

I always assumed Matt Talbot did "Downward is Heavenward", which i love. Just found out that it was Rubel, who i don't know a lot about but after that video and the Hum record, maybe i should check him out.

I just spent 2 days recording at Talbot's Great Western Record Recorders studio in Tolono, IL (15 minutes south of Champaign, where Rubel is). Great space! Has anybody else been there?

Matt, and Great Western are super cool. Matt and I both bought some stuff from a post house that was scaling down. Matt was driving down so for some gas money he grabbed my then new 2" machine.

If you're in the C/U area you should get to know Mark as well. He is one of my favorite people on the planet.

Right on!!!! Mark Rubel!!! I've thought from the first time I listened to it that Downward is Heavenward was one of the best produced under the radar albums EVER!!! It's abolutely huge and full. Just thought I would gush momentarily is all.
