TapeOpCon...

Post by drumsound » Mon Jun 11, 2007 4:07 pm

Hi everyone.

I'm sitting in the Minn. airport on a little pay terminal waiting for my flight to IL.

The conference was a ball. Lots of great panels, discussions and meetings...and an appearance by Ms. Linda Ronstadt!

Things are gonna change next year, and I think it will be exciting to watch.

Ooo, I'm sorry I missed Linda Ronstadt! I met Kevin Cronin there last year.

I missed Linda Ronstadt! Which workshop was she in?

I think George Massenburg asked her to come down and hang out on the "Orchestral Recording" workshop, which was my favorite event of the weekend. Excellently-moderated and full of useful informantion and interesting discussion from a bunch of guys who really know their stuff. Linda sat in the audience and contributed a lot of information to discussions about those Nelson Riddle sessions.

it can't go back to new orleans - I'm in Arizona. The TapeOpCon belongs in AZ now.

I personally think that the idea that "bigger" is NOT better for the tapeopcon.

The idea that a family vibe, like we have experienced over the years, would actually hold true with more people coming is laughable. WHY does it need to expand so much? what is broken about it now? why not simply do it BETTER next year, and use what was learned to streamline the costs rather than try and stretch out and get a billion people involved?

I felt like the announcement that the conference was moving back to new orleans, and would no longer be called tapeopcon, was incredibly depressing. who is going to sponsor a PB&J table for 5000 people? ever been to AES in NYC? it is a fucking zoo, and not very fun.

I doubt it will get to AES proportion.

I think we as attendies, and panelists can and should help to shape the con and continue to make it what it is and what it will become.
