anyone still using digital fishphones plugs?
I have to admit. I'm still using blockfish and endorphin on almost every session. I love how blockfish makes vox sound, and the m/s function on endorphin is awesome for doing a little mix compression. Does anyone else have favorite tricks that they do with these plugs? I know there might be a few better, but it's hard to beat free.
@studioquotes "producer: turn the gain up just a tad" "guitarist: is that the same as volume?" "Producer: actually the last take was great!"
I use the gate on all my close mic'ed drums. It is so kick ass.

blockfish is amazing. I use it now on the drum OH bus a lot, great at squashing cymbals etc. Haven't used endorphin at all.
Really amazed that nothing else has been done that sounds like blockfish. Anyone use compressor plugs and get close? I've said this before, it's one of the big reasons I decided to buy a used G5 as opposed to a Mac Pro.

I use blockfish, spitfish and floorfish on just about every mix. Floorfish doesn't work with everything though, sometimes it makes the kick drum distort really badly for some reason. I've gotten away from blockfish a little bit, because it always sounds the same to me, I can tell it's blockfish and not another plug by the sound. The lack of controls can be limiting sometimes, like when i wish it had separate attack and release controls. Spitfish has a preset called 'cute swedish girl' (or something like that), that I use when I have a really sibilant vocal that I just can't tame. Spitfish also works great on cymbals that are too sizzly or bright.
For freeware, they are all pretty damn amazing. What does Endorphin do? I haven't downloaded that one.....

I second the floorfish as a gate on close mic'd drums. Total Control.
Blockfish does well on parallel compressing a snare, If you open up the inside panel you can really tailor the sound you want. Good for making a snare pop. I don't use blockfish on much else.
I also second the de-essing spitfish does on sibilinat vox and splashy cymbals.
Great free plugs for sure.

endorphin is kindof a two band compressor designed for compressing mixes more i think. it has a really cool mid/side function that I use all the time to tame the drums. also has a saturation kindof function that from what I can tell just adds harmonics to the upper range, which is actually a good thing for my mixes. lately I've been using the opto setting alot on whole mixes. It's seriously my secret weapon when I'm forced to "master" projects (along with other plugs)

It will not work on the Intel macs at all ... hence my sticking with a G5.roscoenyc wrote:I used to love Blockfish!
I got a new home rig recently (intel iMac 24) and I can't get it to work on this thing?
Is there something missing?

yep, i love endorphin and use it as the last link in every track i make.
i usually use two instances. the first one is set to all the warmest/tubey settings with no gain/limiting and just a hint of compression, whilst the second instance i use more as a coloured brick wall limiter - i can squash as much or as little as i like.
the manual is EXTREMELY informative and i recommend reading it over and over to get an idea of what everything does (i know i have!)
it's my favourite vst plugin bar none, and i've been using it regularly since it was released. i can upload a photo of my "starter settings" and a longer explanation if anyone is interested.
this, along with audiomulch and audition, is the reason i won't switch to mac!

Hey, it's Roscoe...!
I'm having a similar problem kinda: I installed the fishphones on my g4 eMac and they only show up on stereo tracks. No mono? Am I doing something wrong?
