Keying a gate in Cubase?
Does anybody know how to key or sidechain an FX channel in Cubase SL? I want to key an expander on a drum room track from my snare track to get a big 'ole snare sound.
Thanks DWLB! I've edited the post to be more accurate.

You either want a gate or an expander on the room mic, externally keyed to the snare track.

Yeah, a compressor with keying is "key" (har har) but I personally don't fully understand why it has to be a quad bus, rather than a regular stereo bus.

Ok, so it looks like you can do it in version of Cubase that do not have the Quad bus.

well I'm having a little trouble here with it still; it seems as though I'm just sending the bass and kick into a group with Waves C1 SC comp and unless I do hard panning and doing the chain in "L>R" mode there doesn't seem to be a sidechain relationship going on...
what Waves comps can I use with this method? any? Or any of the stock Cubase comps? Or a free one I can find (PC)? Or I'm still missing something with the actual technique...?

I think you need a compressor plug that has a "keying" feature, like Voxengo's Crunchessor (very inexpensive and very good!)
