Jackpot! update? Larry?!

Post by trask » Tue Jul 03, 2007 11:51 am

Even though I could probably answer my own question with "well, they're probably busy as shit." Isn't the new Jackpot! pretty much done at this point? Did you continue to take photos of the process, etc, or can we expect to see an article on here, in the mag, or on the Hamptone site?

Just wondering, cause I can't wait to see how it came out, and the Hamptone site hasn't been updated in ages.

The Jackpot! site has a bunch of really nice pics. It looks like a great space, and from talking with Larry at the Tape Op Con, he/they really put a lot of thought and effort into making everything right.

That color scheme is not where I'd like to spend hours and hours per day though I'll say that much..green, purple, orange....give my eyes a break.

wow, how did I completely forget to check the actual Jackpot site... damn, that was dumb.

It does look pretty cool, but I agree about the colors, a bit too wacky for my taste. I gotta say, that owl is pretty dope though.

We've been open a month and bands and engineers dig it. 150+ people were there for the opening party last week and everyone liked the colors. Also, realize that the lights will be darker than they were for the pix and it darkens up a lot.

Personally if I had to sit in a bland colored place for days on end I'd lose my mind!

Larry,
I was wondering if you just applied traps till you thought it sounded good or was there a method to your madness. Also I noticed some small speakers(Avantones?)How do you like them? Thanks!
Peace,
Kevin

The console is still the Allen and Heath Saber, I pulled the meter bridge off to lower the speaker stands. Plus the meters on it suck.

The Avantones sound interesting, I haven't got to mix with them yet.

The one method used for sound treatment was apply, listen, change. The back CR wall has Ethan Winer's bass traps. The side and front wall have Real Traps MiniTraps and homemade 703 panels.

Are your Avantones the active or passive models?

Passive Avantones! Do they make active?

Your place looks great!

Also, thanks for posting the photos- fun to look at, and very educational. One takeaway for me is your patchbay setup. A picture is worth a thousand patch cables. :D

The patchbay was a monster to build. Probably over a month. Every bay corresponds to a rack (top to bottom = L-R) or to equipment. Super easy to use and sort out. Clean labeling too, via XLS.

I find the towel rack for patch cables and EFX rack on wheels to be inspiring.
Do you have outside covers for it?
