Ultimate Studio Drum Kit?
If you don't know much about drum shopping around then you might want to stay away from vintage Ludwig kits, as much as I love them.
That is one brand of vintage drums that I would not buy sight-unseen. They range from awesome to terrible. The 3-ply maple clear interiors from the late 60s early 70s are the most consistently good I've found among Ludwigs. But still. The earlier keystone badge drums often sound worse, rarely sound better than the blue/olive badge drums, which are worth less.
You cannot go wrong with a supraphonic or acrolite snare though.
60s Rogers drums are indeed the shit. But it seems that this has been figured out and prices are rising...

I swear to god these are better than any of your DW's ayotte's or whatever the kids are playing these days.. (I'm 24 BTW) just stay away from the 70's ludwigs when they switched to the thick shells w/ no reinforcement rings... those are less than amazing... I have a '67 keystone set but dont like the hardware very much.. so I don't gig w/ it or anything... just record & practice. here she is:
I want one of those early 70's kits sooo bad though... my dad's got a set maybe I'll inherit someday....
here's my other recording kit... the other dude's gretschs reminded me of mine... they've been dormant for a while...

yes... I have the BD badge too, just waiting for the grommet tool to put it on.. yeah I've heard those are real desireable... had this kit almost 20 yrs... my dad bought it for me for 100 bucks when I was 5 yrs old!!! we hacked the fuck out of the original aqua satin, which was covered in crayon & pen markings from the previous owner's kid... (I was raised to respect dad's "toys") by covering it with some plain white wrap my dad got outta the back of a modern drummer mag back in the day... I finally got around to getting the old girls back in showroom condition.. now they just sit there looking good!brad347 wrote:scottiedoo... those look awes.
20 12 14?
That 14" floor (if that is what it is) is worth a bundle nowadays.
