Most of the time I end up just unhooking the speaker so there won't be any bleed in the drum mics.
You probably already know this, but you should never run a tube amp without a speaker or a dummy load connected or you risk a meltdown.

Would removing the power tubes do the trick?

Yes, but it will raise the voltage throughout the rest of the amp and that can cause other problems.

Best solution for me is something like a Weber mini-mass, it's an attenuator that can also act as a dummy load ...and it has a line-out and some eq options. Kinda cool, there may be better attenuators out there that can do the same thing though.

If you are techy, you can order a high power resistor and build your own dummy load.
