How much did you pay for your EV 635a?

Post by Sean Sullivan » Thu Jul 19, 2007 6:26 am

Someone has a pair of these for sale locally but he wants me to make an offer. He says they sell for $100 on eBay...I thought they were like $20-$30. So, what did you all pay for yours?

There's no telling with these mics. There are so many of them out there that prices can very. I got a very clean and new looking 635a from a local music store for $45. I got a beat to shit but still great sonding one from another engineer for free.
Considering how much I like these mics and how often I use them I'd probably be willing to pay upwards of $60 for a clean used one. $100 a piece sounds a bit steep. Why don't you do a search and see what a new one sells for?

I got a PL5 (same mic) for around $35 (plus shipping) in decent shape. I also got a pair of 635A/Bs (the B just means they're black) in great shape for $80 on ebay. Look around. You don't need to pay $100 for one.

Me too, even less I think. PL5's seem to go cheaper.

I think I paid like 65 bucks or something on a buy it now deal, I'm sure I could have saved money if I was patient and bid in an actual auction.

I don't use the thing much but it does sound nice on the Ukulele. 8)

Folks are *selling* them for 100 bucks apiece on the bay but that doesn't mean anyone is buying them for that price.

It is my understanding that the pl5 is the same (it's omni- doesn't have
any vents). I picked up a pl5 on ebay for $10 (+$10 shipping).

$10 for mine, but it looks awful. They're like $100 new, so I think $50 each is perfectly reasonable if they're in good shape.

One pair that's pretty beat up, I paid $40/pr. The other pair is a tad better looking and that ran me $50/pr.

The only true great mic on this planet is the Shure SM-57. It is the most consistant in not totally sucking of anything ever built. All other mics are "application dependant".

I paid $10 for mine, but it looks like it used to belong to GG Allin.

I got a pretty decent one (cosmetically) that sounds great for 30 bucks on ebay about 2 or 3 years ago.

I paid less than 40 for mine and that was with shipping from evilbay...A definite plus for the mic locker.
Of course I've had it in the ear before.....
