Tascam 388 setup pics

Post by mc437 » Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:55 am

I finanlly got around to setting up my rinky-dink recording setup based around a Tascam 388. Here are pics (Tascam 388 8-track reel to reel, 70's ATI M-1000 Dual Channel Microphone Preamplifier-holy gain! great little preamp, Sansui SA-500 Reverberation Amplifier, Sony stereo amp, old realistic speakers that sound surprisingly good):

Those funky old reverb units are awesome, totally lo-fi but muuuuch better than most digi-verbs to me.

...you might want to try positioning those speakers a little differently:

Done. I put them down on either side of the top of the 388. Sounds better, thanks.

Creature!: Did you finally get your hands on a 388?

mc437: rock on

A-Barr: I apologize ahead of time for my speaker placement...

as it stands i have a bad channel card. took it in to get fixed. it sat in a repair shop for 2 months, got it back with nothing done. but i just found a much more reliable repair shop, so hopefully they can get it back to 100%. still able to work around it actually, because i can still record to all 8 tracks, but just have to pull one track straight off the tape. (i love how flexible the 388 is!) still no sideboards. i have the sheet of wood for it...but that's as far as i've gotten.

i did, actually.

eskimo sold me his, can't thank him enough for making this little fetiche of mine come true.

i'm trying hard to make the 388 work for me, but i'dd be lying if i said i'm blown away and that an 80-8 or a 48 aren't on my mind half of the time...
