unusual new protools problem..*****SOLVED***

Post by supafuzz » Wed Aug 08, 2007 8:24 pm

update I upgraded to 7.3.1 and voila I'm up and running
thanks all

Now that i'm up and running I have a new problem.
When I installed the digidesign free eqIII plugins I get an error message telling me that the digidesign hardware is being used by another program.
When I removed the plugins pro tools booted up and recognized the digi oo2

Anyone have this problem??
thanks

I think EQ III and dynamics III both require 7.0 or higher.

Post by supafuzz » Thu Aug 09, 2007 6:11 am

I just found out that digidesign does not support my chipset.
It took 2 weeks to get the parts shipped and get this computer together and solve the software problem....and now the friggin chipset
I hate computers for music..ther are so many problems that have nothing to do with normal human logic.....

thanks for the vote of confidence..I guess.

We still have to deal with computers every day but when they're misbehaving it's a feeling of powlessness. It's not like you can get out the screwdriver and make a couple of adjustments.

I Got the pt7 upgrade to take so that's ok and the eqIII got installed no problem

Now I have to upgrade my monitor because it's not high resolution enough!!

it never ends

As much as I like ProTools for certain reasons (editing), it's finicky nature regarding computer hardware really burns my pants. How many other DAWs force you to learn about chipsets, ferfeksakes?!?

I hear you, but at the risk of being a crap face, I will say this:

It is always when people look for a super "deal" with any DAW tye stuff, but protools in particular, that this sort of thing happens. With a good, solid computer, that it KNOWN to work with PT, rather than as an email box, you can usually get better results, for a longer time period-and-not-have=all-the-little-BS-that-plagues-cheap-gear-syndrome.

I know it sucks, but certain things work well and certain things just kind of do the job for the most part, then there are the things that do the job really well, and do it elegantly ... those things cost a little more, but if you dont want to sit around staring at the computer wishing it was a tape machine (like those ALWAYS work.. yeah).... ya know what im sayin?

This stuff takes time/money/patience/know how. I know you have all of those things, Harley!

Yes you start out as a crapface but you do redeem yourself in the end!

In fact I wasn't going for a cheap bargain box. Quite the opposite I got the best stuff I could afford. Intel dual core 1.6 mhz per side with 2 gigs of memory and a brand new motherboard and TA DA a beautiful rackmount case so it goes right in my rack[sweet].

The problem was that The salesguy from Tiger direct had no computer experience from what I could tell. Lied about items being in stock and didn't guide me in buying all the parts I needed. Even simple things like will my existing monitor support the new higher resolution [It didn;t and I had to buy another] They didn;t send a fan or cooling thing for the cpu [had to buy one]
they didn;t tell me that my drives and cd and dvd burners wouldn't all fit at the same time without a special add on board [had to buy one].
Then after massive research I down loaded pace drivers and finally got PT to work.

The issues were not about cheap but about lack of easily accessible information.[i know it's there and that's where my tenacity paid off..you really have to dredge thru tons of stuff to get it.]

Everything is working pretty well and the new system is really fast.
It's my fault for not totally researching the chipset issue. But I think I specified one that was supported and they didn't have it in stock and substituted another!] I was so panicked at the time I didn't think about this.

I agree with you about cheap...save your money up and get the better one!!
thanks
