HELP! OS9 DISC for Mirror Drive Mac?

Post by Oliver Pines » Thu Aug 09, 2007 9:29 am

So we upgraded to a Mirror Drive Mac for our Digi001, which we primarely use OS9 to run PT 5.
APPARENTLY, this is the last G4 to run OS9, and you need a SPECIAL disc that only came with this computer?
Anyone know the skinny on this?
PLEASE HELP!

If you find specifically what you need, I may be able to help. I don't think there was a special release for that computer, but I could be wrong. I think the last release was 9.2.3.

Let me know what you need and I'll send it to you.

Best,
H

I've spent literally hours searching for info and have seen every forum posting there is about this issue. The deal is that you need to install OS9.2.2 with the install disk that shipped with these macs. Or you need to copy the system folder and apps from one machine (same model) to the other. At least that's what the consensus seems to be among every site I've visited...?

Hit me offline on this. Let me know what you've tried. I don't know of anything about that model that required specific software or drivers, which couldn't be installed later, then again, it's been a while.

I really think 9.2.3 should get you going, then you can dl the specific drivers, but let me know what you've tried and the result.

PM me and we'll exchange email, if you want.

Best,
H

I've gone through this same thing. I've even battled with the local Dr. Mac. The Mirror Drive mac (MDD) does need it's own special install disks. I think it has something to do with being the last Mac that was able to boot into OS 9 natively. A regular OS 9.2.2 disk won't do the job.
I may have the right disks at the studio. PM me and I'll check. Barring that you may be able to find what you need from your local Mac User Group (http://www.miniapples.org).
It's an annoyance I've gone through recently so let me know if you still need help.

What a hassle. I have some connections in this arena, so let me know if you get stuck.

I'll check and see if I can find this disc. We have a couple of those computers at my job.

I'm pretty certain that 9.2.2 was the last version of OS 9 released.

BIT TORRENT. Seriously, it's not like Apple's losing money on it.

You DID search through the Apple upgrade archives, right?
I find adherence to fantasy troubling and unreasonable.

I may have the right system disc here. I'm running a mirrored door G4 from Dec. 2002 that is a dual 1.25GHz machine, and I've long since upgraded to 10.4.9 at present. But all the original documentation is hanging around in the file cabinets.
What are the other specs on your machine to make sure it's the right era?
And does the machine currently just not start up at all?

We got it installed! Someone was kind enough to give us a copy of their system folder and applications. For our particular model, the Mac OS ROM file in the system folder needed to be dated 4/2003 or later, which it was. We copied it all over to our machine and, viola, we're up and running in OS 9.2.2!

Thanks to everyone who replied. It was greatly appreciated.
