digibeta deck help

Post by ec123 » Tue Sep 04, 2007 8:27 am

Anyone have experience using these decks?

I'm transferring audio on channels 3 and 4, and was wondering how to record enable these channels.

1 and 2 already have audio on them, so my concern is making sure I don't write over those channels.

I'm having trouble record enableing channels 3 & 4 so that I can physically see that is where I'm recording.

If anyone has advice for someone who has never used this deck before, please help!

thanks

Need some more info - how are you transferring your audio? Are you locking to ProTools, to a DAT, etc? There are buttons on the left side of the face of the Digibeta that correspond to audio tracks 1, 2, 3, 4 (as well as the video and timecode track). When they are lit up, they are armed. With audio, you have to be sure you select the correct input to the deck - ananlog, AES, or SIF. There are little buttons on the right hand side of the front panel that let you select these individually for each audio channel.

Maybe you already know all that - I'm just not exactly sure what you're asking. More info, please!

Thanks,

Trying to lock PT via AES to the betadeck with machine control (still havent gotten that working yet).

So I found an old tape and did a test. The audio went to 3 and 4, and sounded fine. BUT during the test record, the audio recorded over the video (it turned green and clearly not right!)

I'm ONLY trying to get audio, so how can I disable the video record? And if you can explain how to lock sync in machine control that might save a couple hours...

Appreciate the help!

I don't have one here to refresh my memory, but you need to set up an insert edit. Enable channels 3 & 4 on the insert panel (right side). Set inputs to AES on channels 3 & 4 (left side). Enter the timecode in and out points. Press the auto edit button and away you go. There is an extensive menu system in the machine, and I think you'll need to find the memory location that enables you to lock to incoming AES clock, or you could sync both PT and the Digi to video. Good luck.

Figured out the insert option, but its still writing video and timecode even though those inserts are not selected.

Any ideas?

In addition, when recording on the insert of channels 3 and 4 it is deleting audio on channels 1 and 2.

You're not enabling any video on the insert panel? Its not supposed to record video if you only have audio selected. I may have a chance to set this up later at work, but for now, I don't have any ideas.

Check the machine when you are punching in - is the "Assemble" button lit up? Are just tracks 3 and 4 armed, or are 1 and 2 armed as well?

electrofloss is right, if the assemble switch is illumunated, you'll wipe out everything when you go into record.

Just CH3 and CH4 are lit up blue on the assemle panel. Assemble, TC, CH1, CH2, and CUE remain off.

Once you get your in and out points entered, the rec enabled channels should flash along with the auto edit switch. From there you press the auto edit switch and everything goes into record? Strange. It should just perform an insert on the selected tracks. Again, I can't set this up now, so I'm operating by memory. Could be I'm missing one thing that could change everything.

So I have the basic functions of the deck figured out. Now the problem is machine control.

First way I tried it was to have the beta deck the slave, but then soon found out you have to set the in/out points in protools and not just on the deck. (something I can't figure out)

Then I tried to make protools the slave, since I had both machines locked and was planning on just setting the in/out points on the deck and have protools just follow the timecode... Simply put, i wanted to hit record on the deck and have protools chase it, play the audio, and dump it onto those 2 channels. But now i'm not getting any levels on the deck.

I'm out of ideas, help!
