Control Surfaces vs Front End

Post by UnlikeKurt » Tue Sep 18, 2007 10:11 am

I'm a Pro Tools user and I've been thinking a control surface might help me during mixdown, speed things up, make it more physical and less awkward, etc.

However, the expense of a good control surface is outrageous. I've been holding out against it in hope of saving that money towards a small console, like an Elan or something.

The question here is, for someone working exclusively in the DAW environment to purchase a control surface to aide in their process, or to apply those funds to a better front end, ie: solid microphones and preamps, etc.

Thanks

What kind of mic pre's do you have? personally I'd go with the control surface. I think it's more important what you do with a mix then whet gear it goes through. You can have good front end but it doesn't really matter if you can't make a good mix.
