Predict the next trend in recording
Microphones in the control room during playback for that "this is what it sounds like to listen to this song" effect.

It'd be nice, but just think how many kids are getting a first guitar and a first copy of ProTools LE at the same time? Why practice when you can comp together 8 seperate takes for your junior high band's home-brewed "ep"?drumsound wrote:I'd like the next trend in recording to be musicianship!
My guess is the next trend will be drums-only studios geared toward home-recordists. A studio with, say, a dozen kits set up and mic'ed, with a studio drummer or two for hire. Get in, get out, take your drum tracks with you and do the rest at home.

the death of protools will be very soon in the works.
as things become more and more daw related, audio engineering programs at schools will also probably either change drastically.
but as i see it, knowing the new trendin "recording" is not going to set any one studio or engineer apart. knowing the age old process that can make a great record (musicianship, creativity, organization ect...) will always get you ahead.

I think that instead of looking for the next big thing, A&R reps will instead look for the next act that's the same as the previous act. I think music will not actually go anywhere for a long time.
I think we're already there.
I think 20 years from now someone's going to have a 30 piece orchestra and with what's been happening to even midsize studios in Manhattan, they'll have to record one at a time and overdub as they go along.

Real friends stab you in the front.
