But the square waves are digital. No pulse width mod though, unless you've got a bad connection.GooberNumber9 wrote:Totally. Square waves sound fat and rich, sine waves are thin and boring.Knights Who Say Neve wrote:One is a bunch of sine waves mixed together, and the other is a bunch of square waves. Once you know that, it's totally obvious.
i have to write a thesis: is analog better than digital?

ask DSP, Magnetics, & Mechanical Scientists/Engineers they will have good contrasting POVs to recordists..poop123 wrote:i just need to know which one is better and why. I think myself that a mix would create a good sound but i need to know the extremes of both.

Your thesis is boring. I much prefer comparisons of Digalog and Anital.

If "poop123" is a reference to "Music123", I couldn't agree more.

there's probably a 310 page thread over on gearslutz that you could just copy and paste into a word document.
maybe you should focus less on "which is better", and more on the pros and cons of each (a comparison), or maybe the historical development of both mediums over time.
that would be much easier, and a much more interesting read.

+1.
The evolution of the process is a way more useful subject of study. Somewhere I read that the fundamental logic behind digital recording is actually older than analog recording. (It didn't make any sense to me at the time, though, so I can't give you much more information than that.)
You'd have an awful time trying to come up with a meaningful thesis by contrasting the two styles. Unless your thesis was "Both styles of recording have their advantages and disadvantages and neither is clearly superior" and you developed your argument using other people's pro- and con- arguments.
