John's Manville Panels --VS--- 703
John's Manville Panels --VS--- 703
Does anyone have any experience with John's Manville 2x4 rigid insulation panels? Is it as good as 703? Their numbers are very similar if not the same...

that's your answer.
814 JM is the equivalent in just about every way to OC 703. I use the 814 all the time because the local folks who sell it are easier to get to and a bit cheaper than the local OC suppliers.
If the numbers are pretty close, the performance will be pretty close.
Good luck with the project!

I just bought and used a bunch of the fibrex brand and it worked great. About 1/2 the price of the owens corning as well.

The only true great mic on this planet is the Shure SM-57. It is the most consistant in not totally sucking of anything ever built. All other mics are "application dependant".

We need to start posting things like this! People should know that there are other options besides 703. Their prices are TOO high for insulation. That always happens: a product excels for a particular purpose, and BAM - the price goes. up.chetatkinsdiet wrote:I just bought and used a bunch of the fibrex brand and it worked great. I got it from SPI. Here's their site:
http://www.spi-co.com/index.html
They're located nationwide in larger cities. They sell every major brand of rigid fiberglass as well as other acoustical treatment products.
I don't remember the exact price, but it was around 1/2 the price of the Owens version.

You can go to their page - or better yet, call them. If they're located close to you, just roder what you need. They're a retail store as well. So order on the phone, when it comes in, drive down and pick it up. I'm going on Friday to pick up mine!versuviusx wrote:ok so do you go to this page

How does the JM 814 stuff compare to OC703 as far as rigidity, neatness and how well it can keep an edge?
I've used Roxul mineral wool in the past and it seems to be a bit more "floppy" than oc703 and a bit "messy" on the edge when you cut it. Its great for sound applications, but looking for other options that are a bit more "rigid" than the mineral wool.

Although I haven't taken it out yet, some packs have started to come apart a bit - and it seems really rigid. The edges appear to be very neat, with sharp corners. Wrapped, the packs actually feel like a solid brick.trodden wrote:How does the JM 814 stuff compare to OC703 as far as rigidity, neatness and how well it can keep an edge?

If you put a piece of 814 next to a piece of 703 i don't think you'd be able to tell them apart.
It's pretty much exactly the same. And that makes sense... It's designed to be used in the same applications as 703, so i'm guessing that it would have to spec out for those applications.
Same same same same same stuff.... but it's cheaper!
