Headphone Recommendations
I seem to remember someone giving the thumbs up to a pair of AudioTechnica headphones. I did a search and could not find anything.
I've used Sony 7506's for years and was thinking about trying something else.
Any opinions out there?
Thanks.

I like AKG 240's, but that's just me.

For tracking?
I love the AT's. They get loud enough to really take care of the deaf members of the band, and they sound good... even loud. The cable is long enough, and the earpieces are relatively sturdy. These are some of the only phones I have seen really take a beating and keep on working for years now. They are not expensive, and you can get them almost anywhere. For open backs I like the beyer ones... with the grey/silver earpieces... I cant remember the number rite now. Those are great for the singer who doesnt want a pair of plungers on their head while singing... Tracking good singers with a nice open back phone can really be comfortable, unless they need the mix so loud that you are getting a ton of bleed.

depends on what you need and what you like, I like akg phones. for mixing I have my akg k701, very "natural" (if that?s a usefull word at all in recorded audio), I can hear lot of bass without the cans being hyped in that region. but it?s open design and you can hear what?s happening around you as well as anybody can hear what you?re listening to. not cheap, though (260?)
I would also look at akg k271studio, closed design, about 100?.

i dunno what ppl complain about them being tight on the head for, i have a HUGE head and they fit me fine so long as i remember to adjust them.

+1. My venerable 240 is about toast (after 10 years of use), but I will replace it with another one (probably the D version).segaface wrote:

I have two pairs of Sony 7506 phones and a pair of AKG K240S phones. I'm planning on replacing the K240M phones that I just sold on ebay with another pair of K240S at some point. But not right now.

I have the Sennheiser HD-270. They are a bit brittle for my tastes. I love my pair of AKG 240. I've been wanting to try the Audio Technica ATH-M50, as I've heard really good things about them and they are not too expensive. I need another set of 'phones for an upcoming project.

We use Beyerdynamics DT150's and DT880's. They're nice and have never had people complain about them. Plus, they look super German.
The only issue I have with them is the 1/4 feels flimsy and cheap. Well, over 8 months of using them and no problems so far. We have about 15 pairs and they get used pretty hard by careless drummers and rouge guitarists pulling them pretty hard from our headphone amps.
Well, for what that's worth I guess...
