pcmcia firewire / powerbook g4

Post by randrohe » Wed Nov 21, 2007 6:28 am

hello all,
I currently have a motu ultralite and a 8pre chained in the 400mps slot and a firewire drive in the 800mps. I'm using ableton live which streams off the hard disk. would i gain anything by installing a pcmcia card? Thanx, Rand

Yes, you will gain an extra firewire bus that will allow you to get more stuff in/out of the Powerbook, in theory. The question is, how is everything working right now?
I record, mix, and master in my Philly-based home studio, the Spacement. https://linktr.ee/ipressrecord

actually, very well. (knocks on wood while tossing salt over shoulder) I have heard that on a powerbook that if the firewire busses are both in use that it drags the 800 port down to 400 as it is a shared port. just wondering if I could get a little more mileage. thanx for the reply. Rand
