Zonal, the other audio tape

Anyone try this stuff yet?

Both 675 and 700 are supposed to be Studio master tape equivalents to Quantegy 456 and RMGI 468.

I believe that Zonal formulas were bought by AGFA then BASF then RMGI. I could be dreaming though.

I tried Zonal about 8 or 9 years ago, when it first came out. It was touted as an audiophile formula, and rightly so.

I remembered it being very thick however, making unsuitable for transports like a Sony/MCI or Otari, etc...... it could really only run properly on a Studer.

From my recollection, it was a fair bit more expensive than anything else at the time. It was at about $200, and this was '99 or '00. That was rich then.

But, it did sound good, I'll say that. I ordered it for about 6 months, until the distributor stopped carrying it....... haven't even heard the name till now......
