Purple audio MC77

Post by joel hamilton » Tue Dec 11, 2007 3:52 pm

Man, I forgot how great these things are. My partner at the studio just got one, and I havent used one in ages, and I have it patched up working away in a mix I am working on.. (worst sentence ever).

The MC77 is like one of the best 1176's ever, every time. The consistency between units, and the overall goodness of the MC77 is incredible...

If you are thinking about an 1176, forget about the sucky re-issues out there... they require a bunch of modding to get them back to good. The MC77 comes out of the box great.

I am just very impressed by this thing, and wanted to hip anyone looking to get into an 1176 type of thingy...

I'm really looking forward to their "Action" FET compressor. '77 flavor in a 500 series package

The 76 is pretty good. I still prefer the mojo of an original black-face 1176 (regardless of the fact that they all sound different, they all have a similar mojo), but I do like the MC76. Haven't used a 77 yet. I'm looking forward to hearing an "Action" as well.

Hey Joel, did you get a deal on yours for starting a topic about it here?

I wasnt even involved in the purchase , or the negotiation of the purchase of this unit.... Nor would andrew or Ed want to be associated with me in any way. This is fully unsolicited. Did you get a deal on a UA 1176 for asking me if I got a deal for starting this thread?

If we're getting deals on gear, please visit my NEVE 88RS Appreciation Thread, and forward my shipping address to Rupert.

Shhhh. Yes. The blackface model, specifically.

LOL! It had been a few days since the fabled RS BF had been mentioned.

hahah you type like i do at times on this board and stuff.

even funnier.. while i was getting out of the shower today.. i was daydreaming (or still dreaming and not quite awake) about my change jar and how when its full and I cash it all in, what my options will be. its purpose was to save for a distressor... but i'm thinking of of other gear choices that will keep its value and the mc77 was on my mind this morning..

It's worth mentioning (again) that Andrew and Ed are stellar guys too. They both were very helpful in sourcing parts when I was building a Class A 1176- I'm sure they got very little out of doing so except my thanks. Cheers to the gods of customer service!

Is there any difference in the 76 and the 77, aside from a part that became obsolete? I've never used a 77, so I'm curious.

77 has a LED light for the meter instead of a bulb. that's the only thing i can remember right at the moment.
