akg d12 problem
akg d12 problem

Last time I checked, AKG in Europe fixes d12's, (or at least d12e's). AKG in the US doesn't. I don't have the url for the Euro AKG at this computer, but if you google it and e-mail 'em, they should be able to help you out.
I think the mics get fixed in Vienna, if I'm remembering right.

Whatever you do, DON'T send the mic to AKG in the US. They're the most wretched company I've ever dealt with regarding repairs. Last year, they were farming their work on the east coast out to Richard Land at Land Audio in Nashville. Richard is a very straight-up guy who does excellent work. Contact him directly and you'll get the same type of repair without AKG's bullshit service. His name has come up before on this website, so a search ought to yield his contact information. He'll tell you whether or not he can fix it.

jk,
We had our D12 capsule replaced about 3-4 years ago by AKG USA and they said I got the very last one.
Put it up on eBay as-is for parts. I'll bet you still get pretty good $ for it. Try the Audix D6. It's a lot more hyped than the D12 but sounds pretty good without EQ and is reasonably priced.
If you're in a pinch you can borrow our D12, RE20 or D6.

john, thanks. i guess there's no way to "fix" a defective capsule? i just got an email from the guy at land audio confirming that there are no more capsules at all. i wish i knew the difference between a good d12 and a blown one when i bought this one three years ago.....rats. maybe i'll try the audix, i'm sure its inexpensive.
