Tony Levin; Securtiy

Post by blixton » Thu Dec 20, 2007 11:15 am

Does anyone have an interview or know what effects chain Tony used during this album?

I'm particularly interested in the sounds he makes 26:13 minutes into this video. Pretty cool,.. Id say. Quite beautiful. Thanks!

Didn't have a chance to watch the vid but one thing that Tony Levin used a bit was the Emmett Chapman "Patch of Shades" box - a pressure sensitive pedal which cross fades from one effect loop to another and works as a wah/envelope filter amongst other things.

Best regards,
Steve Berson

it's one of a series of modular pedalboards Yamaha made in the early 80s, NOT the Patch Of Shades.

Well, if you're going to throw a half-hour video at people, at least you could have the COMMON COURTESY to mention that they're looking for a one-second shot of the box in question at 26:07. Seriously, it's a cool video, but show some respect for the rest of us.

True, and I missed that. But then I had no idea when Levin might show up, when there would be shots of the box, etc.

I think it has a cool sound when used with effects. Its bassy and plucky but not too boomy so it lends to coloring fairly well. I'm not a huge fan of the way it sounds clean though

Seriously, thanks Refd. I knew there would be a learned eye somewhere that would know.

i watched this Gabriel thing (pretty inspiring stuff!) around the time it was originally posted on YouTube, saw that pedalboard and was obsessed enough to research it.

as with a vast number of their past products, Yamaha no longer has any record of those things so it was slow going.

Korg came out with something similar but far less ambitious around '85 after the Yamaha versions were out of production.
