I have an old hollow body guitar with single coils that has started behaving a bit strange. One pick up is fine but the other is very intermittent and the volume drops sometimes and begins to hum like it is not grounded or something.Shining a torch inside the f holes I can see it is very dusty inside.Any ideas on what I could try?

have you tried jiggling the input jack and checking all your cables? it's sounds like a loose connection, maybe a solder joint is faulty in the guitar. take it to a shop unless you want to check it out yourself but hollow and semi-hollow body guitars are a pain to work on for electronics.
