I always loved this design, I wish it was a genuine fender guitar, though. I've always been a fan of fender's more unique designs (i own a cyclone).

Also everyone has musicmaster basses, while i'm stuck witha mustang and a squier bronco.

i need to post some pics asap, huh

Sorry No picts.

I've got a 2003 Les Paul. (LOVE IT!!!! thank you very much!)Thanks to Mike for posting on first page

an older Music Man Tele (pre- ernie ball)

An older Aria Acoustic I got in '82 that sounds better every year and
my G&L bass. Super heavy, but sounds amazing imho.

Mike, here's one for your "I want a funky ol hollow body."

My guitar player stumbled upon a Washburn 335 copy (all black) in a funky pawn shop in Kingman AZ. Too short on cash he regretfully passed it up. That night in some other bummfuck AZ town he won $200 playing bingo. He took it for the sign it was and drove back to Kingman in the morning. Walked through the door of said funky pawnshop just as they were hanging a "Sale" sign on the Washburn. $100!!
He bought the guitar and brought it home to his guitar tech who spent an hour tightening up EVERYThing! Now it is a Real fucking player!!! I played it for an hour tuesday night. I can't believe it. It's a real beauty, Even if it is a washburn.
I have some really horrible gear!!!

re: even if it is a Washburn. Before their current era of crap, Washburn put out some fine guitars. I used to work at their factory and saw quite a few very nice instruments pass through. Some '70s and '80s Washburns are very good guitars.

Some of you may recognize this famous axe. It ain't mine, but the owner plays mine when he comes over

I believe that's my SJ Jr he's playing

Funny thing, his current fave of mine is the '82 Japanese Casino. I could hardly get a good sound out of it, but in his hands, it's a winner... At least one of the solos on the Roy Loney album was done with that one... go back up the the second or third post to see what I'm talking about :D

The guys at the store gave me a great deal since i had been taking lessons there for a couple of years.. i had to sling a lot of tacos at Taco Johns for my axe, love it.

I make sure i date girls who have, or have roommates who have an acoustic guitar to play on.

I do have a cheapo j-bass that needs some tlc though.

Totally hilarious Brandon!

Fantastic story, thanks!

..but, wow, this late in the game posting with no pics. And particularly galling is
that my own friend Toe Moss would do this to me. You're doing this just to get
back at me for not lending your band the Hamptone that weekend aren't ya. I told
you the wife and kid would be out of town, and I wanted to record some. Sheesh!

Now what? I've painted myself into a corner.
Nothing has worked. The overly cute kid pics, the poorly manufactured classical
guitar, the threatened harm to Miss Lushlife; nothing has worked.

I'm going to have to break out something that no one should have to sit through.
This was made during the last Holiday break while we visited my mom at her
place. She had a vid cam she wanted me to install on her little pc. This was
what was recorded upon testing the camera.

For those of you who don't speak $19.00 Logitech, the impromptu lyrics
apparently go like this:

I'm a very white boy,
pasty, pasty
No cure for the melanin fix I'm in
the pale end of the spectrum.

Please note the official issue TapeOpCon SF obtained long sleeved Manley t
shirt, which I mainly use as a nighty.

Oh, and I got that bass the day before from a funky little shop down there btw..

It's matsumoku made, but it's a Westone Thunder 1-A. Really solid.

Meant to ask you about your Electra with the built in effects!

Right, Electra "became" Westone in the mid-'80s. They were Electra/Westone for a little while. Same basic body style as an Electra Phoenix bass, then.

EDIT: Looks like yours is similar to the X635: http://www.rivercityamps.com/electra/x635.php

The Electra with built-in effects is a cool guitar. Mid-'70s and getting extremely expensive on evllBay...essentially there is a compartment in the back into which you slide two modules, and each is an effects box. And of course you can swap out the modules.

Two switches on the front turn the effects on and off, and each effect has an accompanying knob on the front of the guitar that adjusts a parameter of that effect.
(so, the four knobs on the front are volume, tone, effect one, effect two)

So for instance, the phaser effect, you can control the speed of the phaser with the knob, the overdrive, you can control the amount of drive, etc.

The effects are kinda cool, some are better than others though I've only got three of the seven or eight modules that were available. Of course, on an older guitar with such proprietary technology it's difficult to get tech work done on it, so on mine, one module is scratchy and the pickups are pretty low-output (oddly all my other Electras have really hot pickups)...so it's a studio-only guitar at the moment.

There's also a 5-position pickup selector that gives a wider range of tones than the standard 3-way Les Paul switch:
an Electra reference page I found wrote:Position 1 gives you both pickups in series and in phase.

Position 2 gives you Bass pickup only.

Position 3 gives you both pickups in parallel and in phase with each other (standard Les Paul both pickups or middle switch position).

Position 4 gives you Treble pickup only.

Position 5 gives you both pickups in series but out of phase with each other.

My guitar teacher back in HS had a black washburn 335 copy, it was a really nice playing/looking guitar.

Well, it's a Japanese instrument so the quality is very high in comparison to most other Squier guitars - that's why the Vista series stuff seems to keep pretty high demand. The weakest point on this guitar was the pickups - so it inherited the stock pickups from my faded SG. I wanted dual volume and tone control, so I stuck on concentric stacked pots. The next thing to be switched out on this guitar will be the bridge - it's pretty flimsy. If you're worried about the quality though - I would put it up against any of my MIM stuff. If I can track down another silver Super Sonic I will buy it - this particular one has been a little dinged up. It's a very small guitar, so it's a breeze to strap on and play.

my bandmate has a westone bass that has a switchable fretted/fretless necks. Pretty cool sounding bass, but he just bought a Thunderbird.. unfortunately its NOT the Nikki Sixx version..
