I hear ya. I have the original also. What tubes are you thinking about getting to swap out? I'm needing to try this also. Thanks.......channelcat wrote:No, I opted for the original. Like I said above, I don't really need all the new bells and whistles. And with the price drop at a few places, I really couldn't resist getting one. Plus, the money I saved will go into new tubes for it (and maybe a sticker to cover the ART logo - hehe).snatchman wrote:Hello. Did you just get the VLA II..? I went on the ATR site and I like the new look! Maybe it'll sound "new" also... I may want one....
Too many times I've missed out on something I've really wanted because it was on the verge of being discontinued and I didn't act fast enough. Not this time, and especially not at under $200. Now granted, it hasn't been relegated to the discontinued section of their website yet, but I don't doubt that it will be there soon.

Dude, you are so on! I'm a sucker for Aurelio's! My wife was just up there this past weekend, but I couldn't go because of sessions I had. I'll probably be up there some time this summer, though. I'll try to keep you posted.channelcat wrote:Let me know when you're going to be in the greater Homewood/Flossmoor area again. I'll treat you to a pizza over at Aurelio's.

Right on! Yeah, you don't want to be up here right now - too damn cold. Give me a heads up, and we can try to set up another Chicago beer night too.

Do it! The first ones, the td-7 sets should be pretty cheap now.RefD wrote:i actually semi-jokingly said that to my wife.

$299 seems to be the price-point.
JAN Philips 12AT7's are my fave's in the Pro VLA. Mullard's when I want a more "wooly" signal/character. But I've heard Mullard's can really vary in character.

I ordered some Groove Tubes 12AX7M Mullard reissues for my original VLA. They're on backorder, so I've been using it stock. Not too shabby. I'll report back after the new tubes arrive.
I just picked up the RNC, too. I've only had a few days to mess with it, but I know it's staying in the rack. Thanks to all here who recommended these two boxes! I was able to cover a couple/few bases for under $375 (combined).

don't know if you guys were aware of it or not, but the fella who owns Aurelio's does a lot of good work in the community. That's your pizza money WELL SPENT.cgarges wrote:Dude, you are so on! I am habitually checking my bank balance waiting on my tax return so I can grab one of these VLAs before there aren't any left!
There's a guy trying to sell me an Aphex 661 for $250, as well. That's less than $500 for enough compressors to cover basic tracking.
Throw in a couple of DBX 160x units, and I should be good until I find an oil well in the back yard and I can get a LA2A.
