Alternative Op Amp

Post by KamikazeKyle » Wed Jan 23, 2008 4:38 pm

Hey Guys,

I'm currenlty using a soundtracs MRX 32 recording board from the late 80's and I'm looking to get a bit of a different flavour out of the pre amps. I have heard people talk about switching out Op amps with better Op amps so I was curious what an Alternative to the Texas I?nstruments TL074CN would be.

thanks,
Kyle

I have a few of those in a JBL mixer. I started looking into it and it really aint that bad of a chip. Its JFET based I believe. I do have this in my notes, it appers to still be out there:

thanks man I appreciate it. I may just stick with the TL074CNs and save for a new board.

Thanks,
Kyle

TI is offering these as an "upgrade", but I've never tried them.

Thanks Brian, I thought the slew rate on the originals was pretty dang good. Ill have to check them out. I have very few preamps with Op amps, but I do like this JBL. At 3X the rate I may have to change a channel or 2 over and check em out.
