"that" Lewisohn Beatles book

Post by RefD » Tue Jan 29, 2008 12:50 am

i know this has been supplanted by the newer and far more exhaustive non-Lewisohn book that came out a year or two ago, but i just had to crow that i recently scored it for $10 in very good condition.

i'm finding it pretty entertaining and informative, too.

Great book!
I've always considered it the non religious bible.

I may change my mind when I get the new recording the beatles book.
It should be back in stock by April, according to the website.

Borders was blowing the Lewisohn books out a couple of years ago. I picked up like six copies for $5 each.

Congrats! The newer book does not replace the Lewisohn, it simply provides more information. Lewisohn is still a fantastic resource (even if the new book's authors claim it has errors).

Plus you can read the Lewisohn on the crapper without giving yourself a hernia.

my favorite part of that book was noticing how often the phrase "...with heavy tape echo..." appears.

Almost as often as "with a shit-ton of compression" and "with more limiting than the entire Dave Clark 5 catalog"

The Lewisohn book is worth having simply for the exhaustive notating of the individual takes, reduction mixes, etc.

I consider the Lewisohn book and 'Recording the Beatles' to be companion pieces.

nah. just watch the beatles anthology a bunch.

i'm revisiting it now, actually.

it's just intresting to note how the group like sgt peppers, but really just thought of it as another album. same with revolver.
