Favorite compressor stompbox? (non-boutique)
If I can only choose one a script MXR Dyna-comp is my first choise. It just sounds right.
If I can have several an Orange Squeezer does cool things as does a Grey Ross compressor.

Check out my website for cool songs recorded and played by me with Steve Goulding of the Mekons on drums. Drums were recorded by our own Joel H at Studio G.

Are you kiddin? I saw one go for about three hundred on ebay a few months ago.Spiderhead69 wrote:I have an original Ross compressor I bought new back in the day.
I tried selling it at a garage sale about 3 years ago for $10 and no one bought it. Then I saw that these things go for sale on E-bay for like $150.
Luckily I wasn't so stupid,(this time....)

Some of you guys should check out this one:
Diamond Compressor
I suppose this is a "boutique" pedal, but it isn't any more expensive than most of the others listed here. It's quite an impressive compressor....super versatile and fun to mess with. Build quality is preety much unmatched to any other comp pedals I've had, too.
Toaster, you said something about an 1176 on the floor....this may not be it exactly but I'd bet it's about the closest thing out there at the moment.
Diamond makes great stuff...their delay pedal is to die for as well.

It's not a transparent compressor. It's colorful and has personality. You can get some great overdrive too, if that's your thing. Many will not care for it, but if you do like it, you'll really like it. Like Anthony Michael Hall in the picture there. Or Michael Van Halen or whatever his name is.DanTheNarc wrote:It makes everything seem a little better? It's the Jack Daniels of stompbox compressors.
Sounds like a Harley?
It's square and black?
Help me out here...

I've been using the Boss one, but merely because the local stores have only recently started carrying Diamond & Guyatone. And both main places in town were out of Dynacomps when I needed a compressor pedal.
That said, people talk about the colour of the Dynacomp... and I'm a guy who likes his colour, but also likes more than one knob to tweak. Tele & Gibson RD Artist through an AC30. I know the Boss never gets mentioned, and I imagine for good reason, but what am I missing? In the studio I use a dbx 160xt or Urei LA22 anyways.
