My Chameleon Labs 7720 Stereo Compressor arrived today!!

Post by linus » Fri Feb 22, 2008 7:23 pm

I tried out the Chameleon Labs 7720 compressor at the tradeshow in NYC a couple months back. Liked it. And since I didn't have anything like it and needed (wanted) something like it I put an order in right away.

It just arrived today. I haven't had a chance to try it out yet but hope to do so tomorrow.

My understanding is that it is based on the "SSL type" compressor. For $600 it seemed like a good deal. We'll see.

Anyway, I'm psyched and figured people here would understand the feeling.
Check out my website for cool songs recorded and played by me with Steve Goulding of the Mekons on drums. Drums were recorded by our own Joel H at Studio G.

Awesome Linus,

I checked out the tunes and they sound great. Let us know your thoughts on the comp, that's a great deal if it can really do the ssl thing well.
[Asked whether his shades are prescription or just to look cool]
Guy: Well, I am the drummer.

Front End Audio had a pre-order special for $525 but it said it expired on 2/14.

There's a pretty extensive thread going on over at the Gearslutz forum about it....

Hey!!! Thats not the Chameleon labs 7720! I should know, because thats my Ultimate GSSL clone ala Keith "SSLtech"?s design over at the prodigy pro forum.

I dont think anything you can buy would have such messy wiring as my unit. I have since redone the wiring.

I just got it to work properly a few days ago. It sounds friggin amazing! It cost about the same as the chameleon labs compressor, but should sound a tiny bit better (atleast in my head, since it built it myself)
